Community Preparedness Day - September 26, 2009
Sarasota County "Community Preparedness Day", sponsored by the National Library of Medicine, was held Saturday, September 26th, at the Selby Public Library. Many County and volunteer agencies were represented, including ACS, to provide the public with information and about having their own disaster plans read. We had several folks stop by our table and say "Thanks" for doing what we do! Even though we don't get a lot of media attention for what we do, it's encouraging to know that quite a few folks know about us and realize the value of amateur radio in disasters.
During the event, ACS was invited to become part of Sarasota COAD, Community Organizations Active in Disaster. COAD is a group of nonprofit and community organizations that volunteer services in disaster planning, response, recovery and mitigation. You can find out more about Sarasota COAD by visiting thier web site.
I was also able to post a couple photos via "Twitter", so this is another tool we can use in future activities. The cell phone camera isn't the greatest, but you can see the pictures taken and posted during the event at http://twitpic.com/j7a2g and http://twitpic.com/j7jjm
